Maria Guida, Artist in Lucca

Finally, after a long time, a few weeks ago, mum and I went for a walk in Lucca. Our favorite city and the place where we often get away from work and enjoy our mother and daughter moments. Our fixed stops are mainly two. An aperitif or a cappuccino at the “Caffè del Mercato” in the beautiful Piazza San Michele and a stroll in Chiasso Barletti.

The last medieval alley left intact in the city is Chiasso Barletti. It was redeveloped a few years ago with an artisan imprint for the Christmas period and luckily from that moment it has remained the natural environment for artisans and artists! I love see all the works carefully made by hand in all the windows. That day we noticed a new shop, owned by an artist who, due to Covid, we did not yet know. I immediately fell in love with the happiness, carefree and love that the colors of his works transpire.

It’s the shop of Maria Guida, an artist, a woman, a slightly Tuscanized Neapolitan, with a contagious smile that also strikes from under the mask!
For me it was a real honor to be able, even if only for a short time, to enter in her world.
Colors, tightrope walkers and starry skies, the sea, sovereign cats of their streets, hanging clothes, glimpses of real cities, invented or that simply tell a story characterized her reality. In these places’ harmony and the pleasure of living reign!

26 years ago, a very young Maria fell in love with Lucca, its alleys and its bicycles, and decided to move there. As she rightly pointed out to me “Tuscany has it all”, and how to blame her, right?!
When she decided to devote herself entirely to her art it was because this is what makes her feel good and allows her to work every day with a smile. Feeling happy and bringing a little joy to people’s homes is her mantra on work!
From her paintings, in my opinion, what immediately touches the soul are the colors used, the combinations chosen and the incredible way in which they overwhelm.

She too admitted that colors are the main thing. The element that arrives immediately and what, first of all, makes her feel good. The real things in life are few, but certainly her art is, which changes over time as it grows in the artist’s constant research.

Since January 2021 Maria and her art have found their natural environment in this alley in the historic center of Lucca. In addition to the numerous exhibitions in which she has participated around Italy, her art is also found in some houses around the world, where she is very pleased to send her works.
Bringing home a piece of Maria, large or small, which portrays Lucca or simply remembers Italian beauty, could be a perfect souvenir, a memory of your Tuscan holiday!
